Each island displays a number from 1 to 8, which tells you exactly how many bridges must connect to that island. To solve the puzzle, every numbered island must have the correct number of bridges and all of the islands must be connected together as one complete network.

Think Before You Build
Hashi is not about guessing randomly. The best way to solve each Bridges puzzle is to look for islands where the available connections are limited. For example, an island marked 8 usually gives you a major clue because it needs the maximum possible number of bridges. If it has neighboring islands in all four directions, it must use two bridges in every direction.
Other numbered islands can reveal similar deductions. An island marked 1 with only one possible neighbor must connect to that neighbor. An island marked 4 with only two possible connections may require two bridges in both directions.
As more bridges are placed, new clues appear. Completing one island may eliminate possible connections elsewhere, while an existing bridge may prevent another bridge from crossing its path. The result is a satisfying chain of logical deductions where every correct move can help reveal the next one.
Connect Every Island
Matching the numbers is only part of the challenge. One of the most important rules in Hashi is that every island must be connected into one continuous group.
It is possible to create several smaller groups where every island appears to have the correct number of bridges. However, if those groups are disconnected from each other, the puzzle is not solved.
This extra requirement gives Hashi its unique strategic depth. You must think not only about the number on each individual island, but also about how your decisions affect the entire puzzle.

How to Play
The goal of Hashi is to connect every island on the board using bridges. Each circle or island contains a number. That number tells you how many total bridges must touch that island.
For example, an island showing 3 must eventually have exactly three bridges connected to it. This could be three single bridges leading in different directions, one double bridge and one single bridge, or another valid combination.
To create a bridge, click or tap an island and drag toward another island that is directly above, below, to the left, or to the right. Release when the second island is highlighted. Bridges can only travel in straight horizontal or vertical lines.
You can connect the same two islands with up to two bridges. Connecting them again allows you to change or remove the bridge so you can experiment with different solutions. As you play, keep these Hashi rules in mind:
- Bridges may only connect islands that are directly aligned horizontally or vertically.
- Bridges cannot travel diagonally.
- A bridge cannot pass through another island.
- Bridges cannot cross one another.
- A maximum of two bridges can connect the same pair of islands.
- The number on each island must equal the total number of bridges connected to it.
- Every island must ultimately belong to one connected network.
A puzzle is only complete when every island has the correct number of bridges and the entire board is connected together.
