Spite and Malice Online

Play Spite and Malice online and turn a simple sequence of numbers into a competitive card game of planning, timing, and clever decisions. Similar to Skip-Bo, this classic patience game challenges you to empty your goal pile before your computer opponents. Build shared piles from 1 to 12, use jokers to fill missing numbers, and organize your cards to keep your next move within reach.

Every turn presents a fresh puzzle. Should you use a wild card to reveal your next goal card, clear your hand to draw more cards, or hold back a move that could help an opponent? The rules are easy to learn, but choosing the right order for your plays gives Spite and Malice its strategic depth.

This browser card game supports mobile and desktop play, with AI opponents and adjustable game settings. Choose a two, three, or four player game, then select a goal pile of 5, 10, 20, or 30 cards. Start with a small pile while learning, or choose more goal cards for a longer race.

Spite and Malice Strategy Tips

  • Check your goal card first. Before playing from your hand, identify the number you need to reach. Use your other cards to create that opportunity.
  • Keep useful discard cards accessible. Placing a 6 on top of a 7 can let you play them in sequence later: remove the 6, then the 7 beneath it.
  • Use wild cards with a purpose. A joker that releases a goal card or helps empty your hand can be more valuable than one used simply because it fits.
  • Watch your opponents’ goal cards. If an opponent needs an 8, leaving a building pile at 7 gives them an opening. Consider whether your next move helps you enough to justify that opportunity.
  • Check every pile before discarding. Playing one exposed discard card can uncover another useful card and extend your turn.
  • Stay flexible. Each newly revealed goal card can change your priorities. Recheck your options instead of following your original plan automatically.

Brain Benefits of Playing Spite and Malice

Spite and Malice offers an enjoyable way to practice the mental skills involved in strategic play. Tracking available cards calls on attention and working memory, while building sequences uses number recognition and logical ordering. Planning several moves ahead involves problem-solving, and adjusting to newly revealed cards encourages flexible thinking. Choosing when to spend a joker or end a turn also gives players practice weighing alternatives and resisting an impulsive move. These are opportunities for active mental engagement during play; getting better at the game does not necessarily mean broader improvements in everyday memory or intelligence.

A Card Game for Fans of Skip-Bo and Solitaire

If you enjoy sequencing card games, solitaire-style planning, and competition against computer opponents, Spite and Malice brings those elements together in one approachable browser game. Learn with a short match, experiment with different discard strategies, and challenge yourself to clear a larger goal pile. Every deal gives you another chance to find a smart sequence and finish ahead of the competition.

How to Play

Be the first player to play every card from your goal pile, also called a stock pile in many similar card games. You can still have cards in your hand and discard piles when you win. Your goal pile is the pile that determines victory.

Understand the Cards and Piles

There are several areas on the table, and each has a different purpose:

  • Goal pile: Your personal stack to empty. Only its exposed top card is available to play. Removing it reveals the next card.
  • Hand: The cards available for you to choose from. At the beginning of your turn, the game automatically draws until you have five.
  • Building piles: Four shared spaces in the middle of the table. All players add cards to these piles in ascending order.
  • Discard piles: Four personal spaces where you save cards for later. Only the top card of each discard pile is available.
  • Draw pile: The supply of cards used to refill players’ hands. The game handles drawing automatically.

Start a Building Pile With a 1

An empty building space needs a 1, or a joker acting as a 1. After that, add cards one number at a time: 1, 2, 3, 4, continuing up to 12. If a building pile shows a 4, its next card must be a 5 or a joker representing 5. You cannot skip directly to 6. Colors and suits do not need to match; the numerical sequence determines whether a card fits. When a pile reaches 12, the game clears it, making that space available for another sequence starting at 1.

Empty Your Goal Pile to Win

Keep building sequences, revealing goal cards, and planning your discards. The first player to remove the final card from their goal pile wins immediately.
